BENEFITS
THE NEUTRAL
SOLUTION
For all barge operators and container terminals
Bundle and save: That is our working philosophy. Working independently, Barge Service Center does not serve one specific company, but the entire logistics chain. We have proven our worth by improving the quality of operations in the entire port of Rotterdam. With just a small intervention, inland container vessels can drastically shorten their turnaround times at the port.
SUPPLY CHAIN
FLEXIBILITY
Avoid unnecessary waiting times at the port
The Barge Service Center contributes to greater flexibility of container handling on the Maasvlakte. The major terminals can have inland vessels handled at the Barge Service Center in peak periods. The containers are then transported by road to the container terminals. The gives inland skippers more time for their core activities.
COST-EFFICIENT
BUNDLING
Relatively expensive ‘call sizes’ are a thing of the past
The Barge Service Center handles small numbers of containers centrally and these are then taken to the various seaport terminals. This central handling process leads to savings for the seaport terminals and reduces delays for inland shippers. Bundling loads prevents the relatively expensive ‘call sizes’.
INCREASES
PORT FLOW
Contributes to efficient container logistics
The various stakeholders within the port of Rotterdam have made agreements about fundamental changes to transport modes. By 2035, the majority of containers will have to be transported by water to and from the hinterland. The Barge Service Center is essential for achieving this objective and therefore contributes indirectly to more sustainable hinterland transport.
SMART
COMBINATION
Reload containers during your standard call
More than 75% of the container barges calling at the Maasvlakte are already heading for the Kramer depot. Therefore, loading extra containers at the Barge Service Center means more efficient handling while at the Maasvlakte.
